Chapter One Crimson Flames Sneak Peek
1
The Deal
MY STOMACH CLENCHED as I sensed the vampire’s approach. He was close. So close I could feel the thrum of his power vibrating along my skin. The hairs on the back of my neck rose, and I knew if I was going to use my power for defense, then I needed to bring it forth now. I closed my eyes, forcing myself to breathe as deeply as I could—which thankfully had gotten easier with practice. I focused on the energy inside me, willing it to the surface, and as I felt it swelling, building like an approaching storm, I threw out my hand, gripped Stone’s shirtsleeve, and urged him to the floor. “Get down! He’s here!”
Stone raked me with a look that told me he was not too pleased, but then fear swept over his face when he realized just how little time we had.
The wooden door to the pub suddenly burst open—bits of wood and dust raining down from the force. Even though Stone should’ve cowered behind me—since his gift of reading blood wasn’t something he could fight with—somehow he’d found some bravery and boldly stood by my side. Though I appreciated it, I didn’t like it, and desperately wished he had listened to me. But I couldn’t think about that and call forth the fire within me at the same time. So I pushed Stone to the back of my mind with the silent promise of dealing with him later. Then I returned my attention to the power building inside me. One last deep breath and my heart shuddered to life inside my chest, making a rhythmic pattern with my faux breathing. A tingling warmth spread from head to toe, then settled on my awaiting hands. Seconds later, there was a glowing orb of fire (about the size of a basketball) cupped inside my palms. And just as the vampire appeared through the settling fog, I called out, “Not another step, Tristan, or it will be your last!”
“I think you should reconsider your threat,” Tristan shot back. “We are on the same side.”
That I sincerely doubted, but I knew killing a member of the Head Council would definitely put me on the “Most Wanted” list. Which I might already be on, since I’d helped the human this vampire was here to claim escape.
“She’s not bluffing!” Stone said through a snarl. I wanted to glare him into silence, but I refused to take my eyes off of the vampire standing in the broken doorway, wearing a black Armani-looking suit—now lightly covered with dust. It was a custom for all members of the Head Council to wear black suits, but each of them would wear shoes and an undershirt of their own choosing. I guess it was a way to express their individual personalities. Yet this one seemed to express himself through his spiked, platinum blond hair, not the basic black undershirt and matching boots—which were much more boring compared to what I’d seen a few of the other Council members wearing. But this vampire was far from boring. He was a tracker for the Council—one of the best hunters on earth. And he was after my human boyfriend.
“You know why I’m here, Abigail,” Tristan bit out. “The human was here.”
I felt my gaze narrow as I carefully took a step forward, the ball of flames growing hotter in my hands. “Yes, he was. It’s my fault he wasn’t captured.”
“That’s not exactly true,” said Stone as he moved up beside me.
I stole a few deep breaths, fighting the urge to throw my fireball at him instead of the blond vampire in the suit.
“Please explain!” Tristan ordered with impatience. But as Stone attempted a reply, he was cut off. “Not you! I want to hear this directly from Abigail!”
“Abby,” I corrected, feeling sweat forming above my brows and pooling between my breasts.
The blond vampire smirked, folding his arms in front of his chest.
“I did not restrain him because I do not believe he will be kept safe once in your hands,” I went on. “And until I can prove his innocence in all of this, I feel it’s best that he stay far away from you.”
A tinge of red formed a ring around Tristan’s irises as he scowled. “That is not your decision. He must pay for his involvement with those rogue vampires, including Bronx. He cannot get away with helping them try to destroy our stronghold.”
“I made an agreement with the other Council members,” I reminded him. “Doesn’t that count for something? Your word is nothing if your actions do not back up what you say.” My voice was getting louder, my patience thinning. And the angrier I got, the more difficult it became to control the fire in my hands.
“Yes. We have a deal,” Tristan assured. “We will not kill him or harm him—just as we told you—but that does not mean he won’t be punished some other way.”
“I don’t believe you,” I snapped.
Stone put his hand on my shoulder. “Abby, maybe you should—”
In a flash of movement, the vampire closed the distance between us and held Stone in a headlock from behind with his fangs hovering over my friend’s neck. And since it wasn’t to drink Stone’s blood, since Stone was also a vampire, then that meant it was a threat to rip out my friend’s jugular. From there it would be too easy to finish Stone by ripping off his head. And that’s when my patience snapped. There were only two ways to kill a vampire—burning to death or decapitation—and he was about to find out firsthand just how very dangerous I was. Sure, he could threaten to kill my friend, but he’d be burned alive before Stone’s head hit the ground. I placed all my focus on the orb of heat in my hand, willing it to retract to half its size while intensifying, growing hotter, then I thrust it at Tristan’s face. In a blur of motion, he ducked, throwing Stone to the floor as the fireball grazed over his head, singeing the soft tips of his hair. A snarl erupted from his throat as his fiery gaze locked onto mine. There was a brief hesitation, burnt hair and musk filling my senses, then something similar to curiosity flashed over his eyes and he was airborne, plunging straight for me. My body shuddered as heat blasted out of every pore, radiating from me like invisible steam. Throwing his arms over his face, the vampire faltered midair and fell sideways, then jumped back once he landed and retreated by the door from which he’d entered. Satisfied I’d made my point, I pulled all the heat back inside me, then rushed over to Stone and helped him up. “You okay?” I asked.
He nodded by way of an answer, then ran his hand through his coffee-colored hair—which was completely messed up now….

Review: Someone to Love by Addison Moore

Someone to LoveSomeone to Love by Addison Moore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when two people who don’t believe in love, happen to fall madly into the most beautiful relationship they could ever imagine? A train wreck.

When twenty-year-old Kendall Jordan transfers clear across country to Garrison University, the last thing she’s looking for is a one-night stand. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what, gorgeous, Cruise Elton offers.

Kendall has long since come to realize that love is an illusion that never lasts, and Cruise couldn’t agree more—but something deep inside her wants him all for herself. So, Kendall devises a seat of the pants plan to “play the player” and proposes that Cruise tutor her in becoming a female version of himself, Garrison University’s own playboy.

Real feelings begin to emerge, and neither Kendall nor Cruise know how to classify them. Everything they once thought they knew is redefined as they discover, in one another, Someone to Love.

I love Addison’s writing, and this book was no different. Her heroin/ female leads are witty and have a sense of humor all their own. They are smart although not perfect, and Kendall Jordan is no different.

Kendall arrives at a frat party to meet her future husband for the first time, she expects to get the keys to her new dorm and ends up finding out she is homeless for time time being. In comes Cruise and electricity ignites. Cruise is the manwhore of Garrison and when he sees Kendall he wants her right away and even pulls out the all famous, “ Do you believe in Love at first sight” line. Kendall isn’t falling for it, well at least trying really hard not to. But, not having a place to stay and Cruise offering up his spare room till she gets into the dorm leaves them roommates.

Cruise is a God, and he knows it, everyone wants him and he has had many woman. But now all he wants to do is spend time with Kendall, but his past shows up again and throws a wrench in his plans.

This book has some of of those sex sense you want to recreate and that leave you breathless. I liked that we got to see the growth of a relationship but I also think that it happened way to fast, These two show signs of strong feelings with not much of a build up behind it. There relationship isn’t perfect but I was expecting more drama in the book and when it didn’t come I was a little upset. Don’t get me wrong, there is a few problems but they happen later in the book and there isn’t much fighting is this relation, it is a little hard to believe. But Over all I enjoyed this book.

I would recommend this book for a more mature audience because there is sex and strong language. If you haven’t started reading New Adult books yet, this could be a good first for you.

Review: Asher’s Dilemma

Asher's DilemmaAsher's Dilemma by Coleen Kwan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Asher has been having dreams of a woman he feel’s he knows but can not remember, struggling with this hunting image for weeks, Asher needs to find a way to remember her.

But Asher doesn’t have to look much farther, he his drawn to his invention that may be used to travel though time but is not ready yet. With the help of something beyond his powers Asher is brought back in time, and his memory of the woman is brought back as well. Finding that he has traveled 8 months back in time, he realizes he must act fast to figure out why 8 months in the future the love of his life does not exist anymore.

I enjoyed this book for the most part and I think I would have enjoyed it more had a read the first book. I still give this book 3.5 stars though.

There is plenty of adventure and the twist keep you on your toes. I fall in love with Quigley, even though I also enjoyed Asher. I like the fact that we get to see how one person can be almost a completely different person because of the events that have affected them as well as having the knowledge of the future. If you find time travel and love an enticing topic you should pick this novella and give it a shot, even if you haven’t read the first book, but I would recommend you do.

I received this book from the publisher though netgalley for my honest review.

ARC Review: A Passion for Him by Sylvia Day

Stranger
He wears a mask…and he is following her. Staring at her like no other man since Colin. But Colin is dead and Amelia believes she will never again shiver with pleasure, never again sigh his name.
Lover
Until her masked pursuer lures her into a moonlit garden and a single, reckless kiss. Now she is obsessed with discovering his identity. Perfectly attuned to his every desire, his every thought, she will not stop until she knows his every secret.

When I started reading this book, I didn't know that it was the thrid book in a series. However, I was able to follow the story without the background information. The book recaps enough so you dont have to read the first two books to understand Amelia's story.

In short:
Amelia lives with her sister and brother-in-law, who are notorious criminals. Lord Ware, has been Amelia's friend for six years now and everyone expects them to marry even they know it is coming one day, just slowly. Colin was the love Amelia's life, they grew up playing together, he was the newphew of a stable hand and there for was under her in class, but she did not care. Over time their love grew as did they, olin was three years older than Amelia and undersood he should not have dreams of being with her since he is just a stable boy. One night the house became under attack and Colin broke in to save Amelia and take her away, while riding away the unthinkable happens. Six years later Amelia is still heart broken at the loss of Colin and can't find it in herself to love anyone, not even Ware, she may love him as a friend but nothing else. Then one night when a stranger shows up at a ball, Amelia finds she has an intense attraction for the first time since Colin and maybe she can love again.

For me the book started off slow, and maybe that is because I had not read the first two books. I wanted more out of the charaters and the plot. Amelia's was always feel bad about herself and was just going along for the ride, after Colins death she pretty much gave up on living her own life, just what others thought she should do. I liked Ware as a character he always was trying to my Amelia happy, even while he was in bed with another. The supporting characters for the most part had their back stories in the first two books and i have a feeling in the book after this one as well. The sex was steamy and left you wishes you had a masked man in your bed. I liked that Day left the door to the bed room open for us and didn't just hit at what was going on behind the door. With the plot I just wnated there to be something more, it had a begining, middle and end to it but it moved fast and he middle wasn't as entertaining as I wanted, it just left a little hole.

I don't think this book is for everyone, you must like seamy sex, an uneven plot and duels. I would recommend reading the other books first to help with understanding the other charaters and maybe it will bring more joy from he book.

Its my birthday today!! and Liebster blog award nominations

I would like to thank Oana Matei at Allfantasyworldsblog.com for nominating me for the  Liebster blog award. thank you for thinking of me.

The Liebster blog award is for bloggers who have less than 200 followers, this award lets us get to know the new up and coming bloggers out there.

Here is how to. Except the nomination:

4. Nominate 11 bloggers who have less than 200 followers.

So, here I go: Questions about myself

1) I grew up in the north and I moved to the south for college,I have to say that I like living in the south better but don't tell my family that.

Oana's questions:

1) my other obsessions are cooking and arts and crafts
2) I lend to anyone who will read what I have, I love sharing books
3) My project is to get my husband to read more books, you just have to find what interest the non reading and find it in book form, like my husband, brewing beer is his thing. So, I buy books about beer for I'm to read.
4) there wasn't been a book that I hated that I had heard good things about yet, not saying it won't happen

7) this question is just as hard to answer as number 5, I had so many love hate relationships with characters this past year I don't have an answer.
8) I have found that it is. Hard to read books that have a heavy religious base to them, it's just not what I am looking to read when I went to escape into my book world.
9) my favorite classic book has to be Bram Stockers Dracula
10) Telekinesis, because moving stuff with your mind would be fun and you could mess with people.

Review of Love Unscripted by Tina Reber

Love Unscripted (Love, #1)Love Unscripted by Tina Reber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this book brought my emotions all over the place at the the end. at the start of the book everything seemed great. there was everyday antics of a small town bar owner with a broken heart, and you just know that something is going To happen. now, this was a long book and by that I mean the first 75% was fairly life changing. yes, there are the ups and downs but once you pass that .75 mark the action and heartache just shaders your world. Everything was to good to be true, Ryan showed his true colors to Taryan and they hit it off great. But of corse no matter who you are life is going to show you how much you can handle, and these two can handle an apocalypse. I love the main characters and even the supporting characters hold their own. At times I wanted to shack these two and tell hem how stupid they were being, but someone else did that job for me. I could it put this book down even when I tried, once I was getting towards the end I had to leave for work, all day at work I just kept thinking what is going o happen next. It was also at a critical point in their relationship and my emotion were all over the place, needing the answers. Finally at midnight I got all my answers and man was it worth it. There are some really great lines in this book that portray the personalities of these characters perfectly. They also leave you breathless, giddy, shattered, bleeding, broken, I could go on with everything you feel in this book. Tins research shows in the book with the details of life as a movie star with adoring fans, paparazzi, and the work that actually goes into being an actor. I have to say that I enjoyed this book and can't wait to find out what happens next

Review of The Wicked Wedding of Ellie Vyne by Jayne Fresina

The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne (Sydney Dovedale, #2)The Wicked Wedding of Miss Ellie Vyne by Jayne Fresina
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Wicked Wedding Of Miss Ellie Vyne by Jayne Fresina was a fast read. I read it in about a day and a half. I enjoy Historical Romances and this was no exception. I do however like my HR with a little more romance than I got out of this one.
Ellie is the witty elder daughter of a man who has raised her to be independent, since her mother died when she was a young girl. Ellie, not only takes care of herself but her father and two younger sisters, who happen to be married. In need of money Miss Vyne sets out in disguise as a french Count, gambling and betting to win money to pay the family bills.
James Hartley, ten years Ellie senior and her childhood nemesis appears one night and comes to “save” Ellie from the thieving Count who has stole his diamonds from his mistress. James has no idea that that Ellie and the Count are one and the same.

Ellie is always causing mischief and her name is notorious in scandal, James name in none the cleaner. So when certain circumstances push these two together it is nothing but teasing and smart mouth comments. Will these two ever find common ground?

While this book had some steamy sense it was mild and I found it more funny and corny than your typical Historical Romance. I wanted a little more body to the story and I felt the ending was good it could of been better. This book did have me smiling and wanting to join in some of the fun that these two found for themselves.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves HR’s and mischief.

“ DEMETRIUS- He’s the hulking, brooding warrior even his fellow Guardians avoid. Too dark. Too damged. And given his heritage, he knows it’s best to keep everyone at arm’s length.
Isadora is missing. The words pound through his head like a frantic drimbeat. For her own protection, Demetrius did all he could to avoid the fragile princess, his soul mate. And now she’s gone-kidnapped. To get her back, he’ll have to go to the black place in his soul he’s always shunned. And finally letting her into his heart may be the only way to save them both.”

Teasers:  “Isadora drifted through the haze, ones that made non sense and couldn’t  be real. A seven-foot glowing blue man with floor-lengh hair. Yellow acid hitting her in the face. A field of daemons and a woman with soulless black eyes wearing a long bloodred robe. And then there was him.”

“Warmth gathered low in her belly. A warmth she didn’t want and didn’t understand. What was going on? Why was he here? And where the heck was here, anyway?"
